I can recommend the Hotel du College de France (http://www.hotel-collegedefrance.com/), a two-star hotel in the 5th where I stayed last year. You can get a double room there for $100 or less. It's clean, quiet, and well located (just off the Blvd St-Germain, but on a quiet side street, so you don't get much street noise). The rooms are small, but no smaller than in many three-star Paris hotels, and there's an elevator (it's tiny, but still better than nothing). The staff is friendly, and they speak English.

I have two suggestions (both have web sites) that my wife and I have stayed at in the last 2 years:
1. Le Sainte Beauve
2. Hotel Pas des Calais
There is also (in upper left) on #1 site
a place where you can check other hotels.

We were very happy with each. Both in
excellent locations.

Hi Andy, regarding Le Sainte Beuve how were the room and bath here? The breakfasts seem very expensive; if you ate their breakfast how was that?

Also I read a comment here a while ago that Hotel du Pas de Calais had desk staff that were lazy and asked the guests for change (?!). I don't get it but how did you like this hotel?

Sorry for all the questions but I am interested in staying at either one of these hotels and would like to have comments on them.
