Hello, everyone!
Despite her 78 years, my French mom is juggling with FF and Euros like the best of them. Here is the formula she and other French people are using:
FF Value + 50% of that value : 10 = Euro value (you will find easier to round number to the nearest decimal).

Article costs FF160
160 + 80 = 240 : 10 = 24 Euros
According to the currency converter
160FF = 24.3918

The more you practice, the easier it gets.. Pretty soon
you will be as much at ease with the Euro as you are with the dollar.
May this little trick helps in making your stay in France a more pleasant one.

Fabien
I use www.oanda.com to do conversions for all currencies. Go to the Travelers section.

I like the Oanda site for cheat sheets you can print out and take with you. For instant conversions, I prefer:
http://www.xe.com/ucc/
