Hi!
Two years ago, I did the same sort of homestay program as you're doing. I was 17, and the family had a 16 year old girl (i'm a girl) and a 15 year old boy. I agree that it's a fabulous idea to bring gifts, and I can offer some advice as to what I did. I would suggest a quality bottle of wine for the family (unless you know the parents aren't into that) - my family collected wine and they appreciated a different bottle. Oh - and the customs agents don't confiscate it, just wrap it and put it in your suitcase. I would also suggest something touristy from your hometown. A refrigerator magnet works - it may seem cheesy to you (i'm from Myrtle Beach, I know) but just imagine being on the receiving end of something of that sort. Bring anything original, anything that you absolutely cannot find in Europe - or even in the NE States - something that personifies "georgia" or "south" or "this is what my life is like". Hope this helps!!!!
PS - bring photos of what your family/home/pets/school look like
PPS - DON'T bring anything cinnamon-y, like Big Red - the kids thought it was way too harsh of a flavour.
