traveling with a peanut allergy in France
My family is traveling to France and my 4 year old is allergic to peanuts. I used the Internet to come up with a translation of "allergie aux arachides". Is this correct? Are peanuts commonly used in France? Are there any specific foods you can name? Is the "ch" in arachides pronounced "sh"?

"Is this correct?"
Yes. Peanuts are also called "cacahuètes" (pronounced "ca-ca-wet" in French so be on the lookout for both terms.
"Are peanuts commonly used in France?"
- used in Asian cooking, obviously, and peanut oil may be used in other dishes but not as widely as in some other countries. Peanuts tend to be eaten most often as a bar snack or with apéritifs. Peanut butter isn't commonly eaten.

Sorry, hit post by mistake.
"Are there any specific foods you can name?"
I can't think of any French dishes in particular that might have peanuts in. Will keep thinking though.

Yes! Pronounced "ar-a-sheed"

Is the allergy to just peanuts or all treenuts? I traveled with my husband several times to France and he has nut allergies. We were in the Dordogne where they do use walnut oil ocassionally in salads, We had to ask each time if any of the food was prepared with nuts. Be careful.
