non-refundable hotels that far out - i have never booked a hotel that did not offer a cancellation free within a certain time limit? Are you sure the hotel is non-refundable - is this the norm in Austria? I think it may even be illegal in some countries to do that. Check and if so change it - the Danube Valley could be done as a day trip from Salzburg but with a much longer commute and thus less time to do a relaxed visit.
