Help with Brussels
I will be visiting Brussels for a few days in late August with my wife, son, daughter-in-law and grandson (who will be just over one year). We'll arrive, jet-lagged, on Monday and depart either Thursday or Friday for Paris. My main objective is the Old Masters Museum. I think we'll also take a day trip to Ghent. (We've visited Brugge on a previous trip.). Looking for an area to stay convenient to restaurants and visiting the museum, with good walks. I think a two-bedroom apartment would be ideal, but I suppose adjoining rooms in a hotel would suffice. We'll need A/C, an elevator. Any advice as to neighborhoods, restaurants and accommodations would be very welcome!

Might have left it too late to reserve a room(s) that fit your requirements.
You do not give any details of price range. and exact dates. Use a site like Booking and search for what you need. Read those reviews there will be more than on here. You do not have to use Booking for a reservation. Search for the hotel and find a possible better price. I would drop the a/c requirement.
What sort of price and food styles do you want to eat at? I liked Rosita's Cantina and Restaurant Vincent. Café Novo was my fav Belgium food experience

As the previous poster has mentioned, might be a bit late to find accommodation but you can try these apartments. I’ve stayed in the ones at Montgomery, wasn’t a bad location at all but I was there for long term work assignment years ago.

Thank you for your responses. Seems to be availability on Bookings and even in the aparthotels site. You had me scared -- I tend to make arrangements at the last minute -- this is much earlier than I usually book!

Brussels usually has vacancies in August. Europe is on holiday and that means all the Eurocrats, press, etc etc are too. You can sometimes even get a good deal on a hotel or whatever then.
I haven't been to stay in Brussels for a few decades so I won't offer suggestions. Hopefully tulips will be along soon and can help.

Sorry, not a fan of Brussel and I don't stay in hotels there. But it's true that August is low season for some hotels since there are few business travellers. I like the Sablon area.

Hello everyone, Fra_Diavolo, the Old Masters Museum is in a good position from the point of view of accommodation. Areas that are close for you is anything around Bruxelles-Central station (with the advantage that this is handy for travelling to Ghent as well) and a short walk away is the Porte De Namur area, the Quartier Leopold and Louise is a little further afield. Porte de Namur would suit you quite well, it's the beginning of a shopping street (Chaussée d'Ixelles) and the museum is just a walk down Rue de Namur. There is also a metro station right there, and supermarkets. On our last trip one of the properties I investigated but ultimately didn't go for was Smartflats Toison D'Or, which is just at the beginning of Chaussée de Wavre, and it has two-bedroom apartments available. I am not sure if there is anything for you there in August, and there appears not to be air conditioning or an elevator there, but it is quite a handy location and probably good for the grandkid. The only reason we didn't go for it is because the other property we stayed in that time (B&B Hotel, off Av. Louise) was a bit cheaper. If you are specifically looking for A/C and a lift, then perhaps go for a hotel around Bruxelles-Central (maybe the Novotel? There is a giant smurf out the front.).
Restaurants you might be interested in that are near the Smartflats property are Au Vieux Bruxelles and L'Ultime Atome, which is a brasserie, they are both casual and moderate in price. There are also restaurants further up on Chaussée de Wavre, it's an African neighbourhood, Matongé.
If you are looking for an August bargain, Quartier Leopold and the area around Schuman are areas that appeal to the Eurocrat market and the hotels there will all be empty in August, so you might get something there. I have stayed at Hotel Leopold there a few times but it sadly didn't survive Covid and is closed now.
