i was very stupid and didn't relise that you had to book SOOOO far in advance to see the last supper in milan.
now my mother and i are visiting this bloody place for the purpose of seeing this painting and we cant book to see it

SURELY there must be some other way to get tickets?
does anyone have any ideas?
or know of travel agencies/hotels which pre-book the tickets?

im desperate and very very sad

Have you asked your hotel yet? Sometimes they have connections and access to tickets that we can't.

When we were in Milano some time ago, and also had not made prior reservations to see The Last Supper, our hotel had suggested we take one of these 3 or 4 hour "whirlwind" type tours where they take you very quickly to several places, including to see The Last Supper. They were quite expensive, maybe about 45 or more Euros per person. And since we were three, we decided against it. I am not sorry because I know I will be there again someday and will make sure to book ahead of time. But you should check this out if you really want to see it.

The name of the tour group escapes me. It was described in Rick Steves Italy guidebook.
It is quite expensive as previously mentioned and you can only get it as a part of a bigger package - you have to do other things. Also it did not run everyday, either.

If you DO book a tour, be sure to verify in advance that the particular tour and time you are reserving DOES include The Last Supper.

I suspect one reason it is now booked so far in advance is because of the popularity of the da Vinci Code.

That 3 to 4 hour tour of Milan is an excellent way to see the Last Supper. At least you know you are going to get in. They take you to the Duomo, Galleria,La Scala etc. and end at the Church containing the Last Supper. Only about 25 people or so are permitted entry at any one time and you can only view for ten minutes. The litle old ladies running the place are very strict about all this. You can obtain tickets for the tour from the Tourist Office near the Duomo, but get in early. Perhaps you can book online!
It is a definite must see in Milan.

While I certainly hope you get to see the Last Supper, don't dismiss the rest of Milan as not worth seeing. It's still a very, interesting, vibrant city (some Italians call it the "brain of Italy"). Try also to see the cathedral, La Scala, the galleries, the via Brera and various other sights.

My wife and I went to Milan a couple of years back and we had no reservation. But once we got to Milan we made a call and they did have some tickets available early in the morning. Clare, you didn't realize that this fresco is one of the most famous in the world and it is now the height of tourist season plus all the fuss over Dan Browns book? You could try to call the Milan museum ticket line and see if they have a cancellation (02-89-42-11-46) or take a chance and show up at the Santa Maria delle Grazie in case they have a no show (it does happen). Good luck.

Also don't write off Milan, there are a wealth of cultural treasures in the city as well as mant places where blood has been spilt over the centuries

and there are other many other last suppers, virtually every abbey or old church has one in the refrectory. I have always thought Da Vinci's one is overrated, I prefer the one in Sante Croce in Florence.

My friend called yesterday and made reservations for us to see The Last Supper in September--we were given the day to be there and a confirmation number.

BTW, it took a lot of time before she got through.
