HELP....Sorrento hotel?

Can anyone recommend a hotel in sorrento under $50 usd? I am travelling alone and still on the first leg of my trip. I think I prefer in the city center only because of night life. Thank you!!!

Richard, I stayed at Hotel Nice in Sorrento two years ago and thought it was fine for something budget. It's right on the main drag (Corso Italia) a couple doors down from the corner that leads to the Circumvesuviana train. I don't remember the exact price we paid but it was pretty cheap; for a single I think it'll be in your ballpark.

The positives: rooms are light, clean and fairly spacious although basic - don't expect charm or character. I think all rooms have private bathrooms...I know ours did. Front desk staff (mostly young people) were helpful and pleasant. Very convenient location.

Negative: noise and lots of it. Sorrento's main street is really loud at night...and you will be right in the thick of it. In addition, the hallways weren't carpeted when I was there so guests going up and down the stairs echoed through the hallways. With thin walls I heard all of it but I'm a light sleeper and didn't have earplugs.

If the noise won't bother you, I'd give it a try. By the way, Rick Steves and Margo Classe both mention Hotel Nice in their respective Italy guidebooks. Good luck!

Maddy

Stayed two nights at Hotel Nice in March and it's as the previous poster stated. Don't recall the price, but was extremely affordable. We chose it due to Rick Steve's recommendation. Very convenient to the train station. Would stay there again.

I also stayed at Hotel Nice... for about $30 USD per night, we got a newly renovated room on the back of the hotel. Very clean and friendly. The breakfast included is served at the bar nextdoor, complete with fresh orange juice and beautiful pastries. Have a great time.

Another option is the Palazzo Starace, just off the main street, 10 min walk to the train/bus station. They have a website. We had a clean, large, airy room, with private bathroom and balcony overlooking the main street. Breakfast was included at a bar (cafe) across the street. Three flights of marble stairs but there is a box contraption to lift luggage up and down. Would be within your budget.
Kay

Joe I reserved by fax and received a prompt response. Fax number 081 878 3086. Rick Steves' also now lists an email address for the hotel: [email protected] but haven't tried it myself.
