Help - September Honeymoon

Hi,
Have been reading all the very informative posts and am trying to plan our honeymoon for this September. The Amalfi Coast/Positano area interests us most since it looks romantic and picturesque (and from there we can visit Capri, Herculaneum, Blue Grotto, Ravello, etc). We thought Italy would be the most memorable honeymoon location as we've both always dreamt of visiting. We would also love to be able to visit Florence and maybe either Venice or Rome. We have 10 days - this is what I thought might work:
Fly into Rome and head straight to Positano for 3-4 days, head to Florence for 3 days, and the last remaining days in Venice. There is so much to see and do but since it is our honeymoon, I thought maybe we should only worry about changing hotels 3x at most. Any suggestions?

Honestly, if you have only ten days and plan to fly round trip to Rome, and have the Amalfi Coast as a priority, then think you should drop Venice from your itinerary. You could do something like 4 days on the coast, 3 days Rome and 3 days Florence. Don't forget, you'll need a day to return to Rome for your flight. As a first trip to Italy these three areas will give you a wonderful amount of variety.

WE have been to Italy 3 times, 1st as a honeymoon in 93,next is 10th anniversary this fall. we wouldn't dream of going to Italy without Venice.Best thing to do fly into Rome out from venice saves a traveling day(car or train would take half a day).Keep it to 3 cities max relax go back again and again.RR

Thanks for your advice! I talked to my travel agent and I think since this is our first time to Italy, we will do the in through Venice then to Florence and out through Rome. We'll just have to see the Amalfi Coast another time. Can you recommend romantic hotels in Venice and Florence? I will also look at the other posts! ALso any must-do's for a honeymooning couple? Thanks again!

Ha ha. So right, Ira! Any recommendations for hotels in Florence? Have seen a lot of good Rome and Venice recommendations. It sounds like Florence hotels will cost more given the area...

Hi Mare,
Can't help with Florence hotels as I will be going for the first time in Sept.
In Venice, we will be staying at the Locanda Barbarigo
http://veniceby.com/barbarigo/index.html
which we found on this forum (pricey).
We can recommend the Hotel Marconi
http://www.hotelmarconi.it/
where we have stayed in the past (not as pricey).

Ahhh...Venice..one of the most romantic places on earth (IMHO). We stayed at the Danieli. What a beautiful hotel. Service was grand and the room was lovely. If time allows - take a route off the beaten path. Head towards the right (if facing S. Marco Sq) and keep walking. We found the quaintest little villa area with no tourists - just locals who are out shopping and doing errands and chatting with their neighbors. We sat among them at a wonderful outdoor cafe and had lunch. Venice is so full of intrigue and mystery. At every turn you never know what you will encounter - a beautiful little bridge crossing a canal - a hidden plaza that houses an ancient church - houses with small holes cut out to hold a prayer candle to light each day. I could go on and on - but I would bore you all! I normally would be jealous to read of someone going - but I am returning this October. Can't wait! Enjoy your trip.

Forgot to tell you about Florence. Expect huge crowds of people. If you plan to visit the Uffizi Museum, I strongly suggest you enlist in a guided tour. Your hotel can set you up with one. They aren't too expensive and being part of a tour will grant you priority access into the museum. We waited in an awfully long line for over three hours waiting to get in. We were miserable! If you happen upon the big bronze pig in the market - rub his nose for good luck. Can't say that I liked Florence as much as Venice - just not as romantic and way too crowded. But the art is fabulous especially The David. If you climb up the Duomo to the top - be prepared - it is a long climb up - the view is worth it.
