Just checked with sbb.ch. The fastest train is 6 hours and 53 minutes.

best means cheapest

fastest? most scenic?

fastest fly to Geneva then a short train from airport to Lausanne

cheapest may be train may be plane

www.whichbudget.com for low-cost planes if any

www.cisalpino.com for direct train Venice to Switzerland

There aren't THAT many direct land routes between the two whether you drive or go by rail.

Figure that "almost seven hours" mentioned above comes without luggage restrictions, waits for security screening, getting to the airport a couple of hours ahead, but it DOES come with relaxation and scenery.

Yes and a very very scenic rail route - the reason most folks come to Europe to see nice bucolic scenery like in the Swiss Alps regions and not just airports and cities

Thank-you for this info - sounds like the train might be most interesting.
