Fastest way from Zermatt Switzerland to Venice

Hi, does anyone know the fastest way from Zermatt to Venice. Is it possible to fly into Venice from Brig? I would really like to visit Venice after a ski trip to Zermatt in March but I do not want to get stuck on a train for 10 hours. Thanks!

You cannot fly out of Brig to Venice. Depending on which train you take, the fastest time from Brig to Venice is 4 hrs 38 minutes...slower timings may take up to 6 hours but not the ten you are concerned about.

The quickest train ride takes 6:30 hrs and involves the faster but usually booked-out and expensive Glacier Express from Z. to B.

You can also take a train to Geneva and fly - won't necessarily save time but if you don't like sitting on trains, this might be it for you. Check the Geneva-based airline

Sorry, Wally but the GE segment between Zermatt and Brig is not really noticeably any faster than the normal trains.

Train from Brig to Geneva would take 1 hr 45 minutes (Cisalpino service)

There is an airport in Sion, which is just down the road from Brig west toward Geneva, maybe 30-45 minutes. Swiss Air has service in the winter from here to Zurich, you might be able to connect to a flight to Venice, but door to door this may not save you much time; as you have to figure in travel time by train from Zermatt to Sion, then waiting time in Zurich, then flight time to Venice, then travel time from Venice airport into Venice. My guess is that the train will be the same time and less hassle and changes. Anyway the website for Sion is http://www.sion.ch/new_site/?lienext...r/aeroport.htm but is only in French and German. Website for Swiss International Airlines is Swiss.com You may also be able to hire a private plane.

First class on that Cisalpino train is a pretty nice way to go, IMO, even at 7.5 hours door to door.

Cicerone, thanks for the info about the Sion airport but where are you getting this 7.5 hours from? The fastest 4 hrs 38 minutes Brig-Venice plus the 1 hour and 20 minute Zermatt to Brig segment is only 6 hours total.

Am I missing something here and sorry if I am.

I went to rail.ch and that is the fastest time they quoted. I didn't check all trains on all days, so mabye there is a slightly faster time.

Took the Cisalpino from Brig to Venice after coming up earlier from Zermatt, recall it was a fairly early connection and there was no changing of
trains at Milano. Hve done both ways a couple of times over the years...
