Help - need to get to Paris' Orly airport by 5 am - public transit available?
Hello! I am thinking about booking a flight at 6 am leaving Paris' Orly airport. I will likely be staying at a hotel in the 15 district. Is public transit to the airport available that early? I would have to leave the hotel by at least 4:30 am to get to the airport, right? Suggestions please!!!!

I'd agree if there is a logical alternative I'd rethink the 6 AM flight. But the good news is that a taxi to Orly from the 15th with little traffic at that ungodly hour shouldn't be more than 20 or 25 euro at the very most. I think that would be your best alternative at that hour, and 4:30 should be fine if you only need one hour advance at the airport.

There are night buses (www.noctilien.com) but I would say that a taxi is a better idea in this case -- and I HATE TAXIS.

I don't think there is any night bus that goes to Orly from near the 15th arr., though--if kerouac knows of one perhaps he can say which one and where the bus stop would be. There are some on the east side of Paris going from Gare de Lyon or Austerlitz or place d'Italie, I believe.
I have never thought of a taxi as public transportation, although I suppose it is in the sense that anyone can hire one. By that logic, a private limo would be "public transportation" if you hired it for the day, though, rather than owned it.

I have to confess that I don't spend much time riding buses in the suburbs in the middle of the night, but it appears the Noctilien lines N31 and N131 from Gare de Lyon both go to Orly, as does N120 which connects CDG to Orly via Paris. Circular lines N01 and N02 connect all of the Paris main line train stations (clockwise and counter clockwise)... For someone going to take a plane, it just doesn't seem worth the bother. For people who go on duty at Orly at 4 a.m. every day, it is another matter.
