My initial reaction was le VB facing the side of ND that was not next to the Seine.

There is a very well thought of restaurant on Q de St-Augustin (I think) called Laperousse (my spelling is probably off). Very old but good. It's on the river within sight of Notre Dame.

Please, wliwl, come back and tell us which side you meant. Until we have a correct intrepretation, this is going to drive us half crazy (and since some of us were already one half there, this could now be a serious problem)!

Maybe a photo would help. Here's Laperouse.

OK, my dad says it was Le Vieux Bistro! Thank you!

Has anybody ever eaten there?

Hi wl,

Enter "vieux bistro" (with quotes) in the "search this forum" box.

Again I can't get over how easily some of us can interpret something two vastly different ways. At first reading I was convinced that "side opposite of the Seine" meant it was across the Seine from Notre Dame. Now I look back at the post, and realize that it was the side of Notre Dame that was opposite the Seine side -- which makes it totally clear, and can't imagine why I read it the other way, obviously along with several others. A good lesson to be learned here somewhere.
