Does anyone have any suggestions regarding purchasing a Berlin Pass or Berlin Welcome Card? Also are there transportation cards that allow you to travel in and around the city via trains and bus? Leaving soon so will appreciate some help. Thanks in advance!

I'm planning a similar trip so know a bit about these options, haven't made up my own mind yet. But both those things you name INCLUDE a travelcard. At least you can buy the Berlinpass with one. They are having a sale right now whcih isn't too bad, at least for that add-on option, I think it's about 23 euro for 3 day. The Welcome card alone is around 30 euro for 3 day, I think, and gives you that plus just discounts for attractions. Which sounds good to me.
If you just buy travel tickets alone, they are 7 euro per day for unlimited travel or 30 euro for a week's pass, in zones AB. I think a big advantage of that is that they include children on them to some degree, I don't remember the details as that won't be an issue for me. It sounds like the weekly card would work for you.

And in Berlin you will be taking metro or buses or trams a lot as Berlin is huge and there is nearby Potsdam and Sans Soucci Palace. One elevation S-Bahn line (like a metro inside city) slices right thru the heart of Berlin - kind of a HOHO S-Bahn - don't neglect boat trips on the river that courses thru the heart of old Berlin.
