It appears that is isn't, but can't confirm. There may be no known answer. I framed the question wrong, so I withdraw it. I cn explain off the board if you are really curious.

Very good! Yes, the answer is washtub.

There was a New York Times article about this race a little over a week ago. I posted a thread (title something like: cooling off with a sport for tubbies in Italy) with a link to the article, but it may no longer be accessible for free if it is over the time limit.

Well, I'm not English, but I think I have it. After discovering that Sir Henry Tate made his fortune in sugar refining and patented a method for cutting sugar into cubes, I was sure the answer had to be the Tate Modern Art Gallery in London. But, how to make that fit your length and letter count? A little more googling led me to the fact that this art gallery is sometimes refered to simply as "The Tate." So that must be it, right?

You're right Betty1..
Actually " The Tate" refers to the National Gallery of British Art, more commonly known as the Tate Gallery..the Tate Modern is just one of the offspring . And the clue "gets light ,right" refers to the J M W Turner collection that is housed there..Turner was called the painter of light.

Your turn if you want to continue!

Well, I guess I "sort of" got it right! Haven't been to London in quite a while so got my "Tates" mixed up.

OK, something a bit different: Beautiful dancers, their name is derived from a small town in present-day Slovenia.

11 letters (using the plural), seventh letter is A.

Do you mean 2 words, with 6 letters each, or totalling 6 letters?
