Hello guys! Anyone from Rome or who went to Rome, maybe you know where can I find antique relics of either of the True Cross or of the Saints that are sold. Please inform me its location. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!

I am not really sure if I can be of any help because I haven't understood clearly what you are looking for, but the area around Santa Maria Mggiore has several shops that sell rosaries, images of saints, religious books etc. The one that I know is called LA CASA DEL ROSARIO.

As an alternative I would look around the Vatican if not IN THE Vatican, try to talk to some religious people who work at one of the many shops and they might help you. Hope to be of any help.

Due to the taxi-chariot strike the Emperor has not been able to feed the normal amount of Christians to the lions. So, body part remains for relics are currently in rather short supply. Hang in there, though, the slaughter will resume soon.

The closest thing to "relics" currently available are tiny pieces of linen or other cloth that have been brought in contact with a saint's body or tomb and encased in plastic on a prayer card. They are sold very inexpensively and are available in Cascia at the Basilica of St. Rita and in Padua, at the Basilica of St. Anthony. They are probably available at other places that have a famous saint's body.

The selling of relics to private parties is prohibited in Catholic church law. The law of the church speaks in the strongest terms possible when it prohibits the selling of sacred relics. Canon law states: "It is absolutely wrong to sell sacred relics (canon 1190, 1)." This prohibition could not be worded any more forcefully. And it cannot be restated enough: the church are absolutely opposed to anyone trafficking in the sell of sacred relics.

If you are a Catholic, I would think that this stance of the church would discourage you from trying to purchase relics. And if you are not Catholic, why would you want to purchase a relic? It is a rather odd souvenier.

Unfortunately for you all of the relics of the true cross, apostles etc were bought up from the scam artists by the mother of the Emperor Constantine about 1500 years ago. (That's what you'll see in churches all over europe.)

But - if you check with the concierge of your hotel - I'm sure he'll be able to direct you to someone who can make some new ones up for you.

While it is true that the Church as placed sanctions against the sale of religious relics or articles that have been ritually blessed, there is a way to get around the prohibition. As in all other exhanges of goods and services the Vatican simply allows the Faithful to make a donation.

For those who can't get to the Vatican, the second largest collection of relics in the world can be found in St. Anthony's Chapel in Pittsburgh, PA. Among the 5,000 religious relics housed there are Mary Magdalene, St. John the Baptist and supposedly a piece of the True Cross.

As to whether they would sell of them, I doubt it .... then again, if your offering price was large enough, who knows?

From one Hardy fan to another (I suppose): we went to St Anthony's Chapel two years ago, after living in PGH forever, and searching out relics in Europe several times. This place is mind boggling. I have never seen more gruesome Stations of the Cross anywhere, ever. They are the bloodiest, most horrific depictions of the Passion.... Hey, maybe Mel Gibson visited Pittsburgh.

Wasn't it Martin Luther who said that if all the slivers of the true cross could be gathered together, they would yield enough wood to build a flotilla?
