HELP I Need a Hotel in Rome at or near Rome-Fiumicino airport
We are sailing out of Rome October 30th, 2011. I need a hotel room for 1 night then we leave on are cruise. The Ports of call
Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy; Messina (Sicily), Italy; Piraeus (Athens), Greece; Kusadasi (Ephesus), Turkey; Chania (Souda), Crete, Greece; Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy. We (3 are traveling) will be booking an excursion for Turkey. Will I need to book an excursion for Athens and Crete as well or can we tour and shop on our own?

The Hilton Garden Inn is very nice. I believe it is less expensive than other options at the airport. It has a convenient shuttle to take you to and from your gate. It also has a great, free cookies upon check in

Regarding your header: Definitely check out the shuttle options when you book a hotel. This listing of hotels near the airport might help you:

I prefer to stay downtown. If you're riding the train out to Civitavecchia, you have to come into town anyway for a connection. Hopefully, if you're staying near the airport you'll taking a shuttle.

Thank you all for your responses! The Hilton Garden was one of the Hotels I looked into before I knew about the cookies! We have transfers from FCO airport to the Ship on Sunday(when I booked I had to buy round trip transfers that's why we have to stay at the airport I would have preferred to stay in Rome)we land on Sat 7am the plan is to go to the Hotel drop our luggage off then proceed to Rome for the rest of the day. How late do the trains run from Rome to FCO or should we just plan on a taxi?

The train from Rome to Civitavecchia takes about an hour and costs all of 5 euros. Trains leave every 30min all day long.
Getting from Rome to/from your hotel at the airport will cost the same or more, and be a real hassle.
Throw away/forget the transfer you already paid for and stay in Rome.

Rome has multiple train stations. The main train station is Roma Termini. If you type "stazione termini" into maps.google.com, it will provide the correct location.
