My son is a glass artist who needs to assist at a class in late August in Prague & will also assist at a class in northernmost Scotland (north of Inverness) the very next week.
He will depart from Boston & return to Boston.He would also like to spend a couple of days visiting friends in London. Since he has to pay his own way for the most part,can anyone suggest airlines, airline connections, airports, trains, buses, etc. that don't break the bank?????????

Why has he waited so long to book tickets? Last minute in Aug. is expensive.

Check out www.whichbudget.com for discount airlines in Europe; they can be cheaper than traveling by train. But do be aware that, while Internet fares are often the lowest, they cannot be exchanged or returned. Also, some discount airlines have very stringent baggage restrictions.

For flights around europe from england and scotland consider Easyjet or Ryan Air - book well in advance and travel at the nasty hours and the flights can be v cheap.

Travel within the UK by coach (natioanl express) unless you are travelling at the weekend, when the trains will be quite cheap. During peak times on a weekday train fares can be v high.

Does he know Boston's well-known glass artist, Tim Anderson? Maybe he can help?

I'm struggling to see how getting there can be done cheaper than flying direct.

Then he should take one of the cheapie airlines (Easyjet, I think), to Gatwick and from Gatwick to Inverness. He shoudl take the bus to whereever he's going and then back to Glasgow and get a direct flight home.

Prague only has one airport, so there is no choice there. That is actually beneficial, as some of the cheap airlines that use hub airports can add a lot in travel time.

For Prague from London, I'd check Easyjet and BMIBaby. I think they both do that route. He should also look at BA, of course (which will probably be a Czech Air codeshare) as they often have good deals and he might do well by having theat as an add-on to the other ticket.

Ecomomy travel in Europe is by bus. August is still high season and rates are the same because of demand. Find a weekend copy of the London Times and check the travel section. Prague is a weekend place for young English.
