Help! Electra Palace closed--need another Athens hotel!
Just received a call from the Electra Palace advising their renovations (that were scheduled to conclude in May) will go into November. We had a reservation for the end of September (the last weekend of our honeymoon) and now we need a new hotel. They are offering the Electra Hotel for the same price--239 Euro (we had reserved a suite with view of the Acropolis).

I thought I read the Electra Hotel was not nearly as nice as the Electra Palace.

Please help!!! Any suggestions for something in the Plaka w/ view of Acopolis would be great!

Thanks.
CB

cb: I'm sure that was just what you needed to hear with your wedding a couple of months away
. Actually they were supposed to reopen on Aug31, I know the hotel was closed in May. I checked it for someone in late May (via the "dilos" website) and that's what it said then and now.
The Electra Palace is very nice, I've stayed there twice. But it is the only 4*/Class B hotel in the Plaka. For the price you were going to pay for a suite you might consider getting a double in a 5* hotel outside the Plaka. A couple that I remember thru posts are the Divani-Palace Acropolis and the St George Lycabettus Hotel. The St George although you'd want to taxi to the tourist sites from there which is cheap, looks very romantic and does have rooms with a (1mi) view of the Acropolis. Go to www.dilos.com click-on "Greece" & "Athens" for some info on hotels. I have also used them twice to book hotels with no problems, do a search here on dilos. A couple of 3* hotels just outside the Plaka with (some) Acropolis views is the Acropolis View Hotel and the Athos(sp?). Good Luck Regards, Walter
The Electra is not as nice as the Electra Palace - it is a rather charmless high rise modern building outside the Plaka (although the street has recently been pedestrianised).

Try the Adonis Hotel (smaller and simpler but on a cobbled lane in Plaka -the high rooms have Acropolis view); or the Acropolis House (also simpler; no Acropolis view but an intimate C19 building); or the Attalos.
Contact details etc are on:

http://www.i-escape.com/destination_...country=Greece

greetings from Athens!

i suggest you check, a first class categ.,fully renovated the HERODION HOTEL,on rovertou galli street tel 00 3010 9236832.
it is a family managed hotel ( trained in glion-switzeland) with great personal service, excellent restaurant etc...
i consider its acropolis view rooms as the best in athens(within easy walk of Plaka,Acropolis entrance, subway.

the grande bretagne is closed for renovations.
do not stay in the syntagma area as most of the hotels are under renovation (for the 2004 olympics)and there is a lot of noise.
'kalos na elthete''
