I'm driving myself crazy reading reviews for the following hotels! Any recent firsthand experience would be greatly appreciated! I want a wonderful location with some outdoor space to enjoy a view and a glass of wine. I'm traveling solo so safety is important. I'm looking for something not worn or smelly for around 125-200 euro. Here's what I've found:

I don't know if you'd be interested in an apartment but a friend and I stayed in the Santa Croce apartment: http://www.florenceandtuscany.com/scheda.php?id_app=7. It was a perfect location - we walked everywhere. It had a lovely little balcony and you could see a few towers from there. It's larger than you need but only 145 eu/day. I will warn you, though, that the stairs are steep and it is a workout. Thus, we justified our wine consumption. Have a wonderful time.

Have you checked the websites of Tripadvisor and Venere.com for recent reviews?

Also, do you mind my asking what time of year you are going and whether you have ever visited Firenze before? In high summer, Firenze can be blisteringly hot and stiflingly humid, and you might find that terrace not worth the extra money you paid for it.

And while I can appreciate the joys of a private perch, Firenze's piazze and street scene are among the most delightful in Europe. The most famous wines can charge you a fortune for a glass of wine if you sit in a cafe, but there are many others, plus fountains and other perches where you can bring your own wine (discreetly!)

If you can live without the terrace, I can highly recommend Tourist House Ghiberti (and so does Michelin) with great amenities like a steam room and jacuzzi. It's got a great location.

My brother and sister-in-law stayed at the Antica Torre del via Tornabuoni for their honeymoon and absolutly loved it ... especially the roof top patio, they said it was superb. My husband and I trust their judgement so much that we booked to stay in September for our trip.

We've stayed at the Hermitage a couple of times but not in several years. We loved the location, and the roof-top terrace has wonderful views.

The Degli Orafi looks very nice. It's very close to the Hermitage, so I like its location.
