Hello to all from Lucca
Hi, I am in Lucca today. It is very beautiful. I have finished tour to Morocco. Rode a camel at sunset in the Sahara, walked barefoot in the sand. Toured high Atlas mountains and Todra Gorge. Shopped the markets and had a great time. Spent a day at the airport getting back from Casablanca to Paris. stuck in air france strike. People back to States were told it would be 3 days before they could get back.
Spent 5 days in Paris just walking and relaxing. No agenda, just turned corners. Night trained to Florence on Friday, 4 bed couchette. It was fine. I was so glad not to face another airport.
I started out this AM to do a Florence walk which was cancelled due to not enough people. I simply walked down the street and jumped on the bus for Lucca. I love the freedom of this trip.
Today my bank card is frozen by Bank of america even though I called before I left. A pain but I will call them. already sent an email from my online account.
I move on next to Orvieto and plan a trip to siena and cortona. Then I return to Paris by night train and start in my apartment for the month. I have already forgotten the tremendous stress of moving from my house and finishing my 2 jobs.
My best to all.

Hello again,
I have been back to Paris for 9 days now. Les greve is ongoing. I picked up my two new pairs of very stylish glasses luckily beforehand.
I really like my neighborhood, Ledru Rolin and St. Antoine. I do not have Tv and read all my books and the ones in the apartment. I went all around looking for english books. The bookstores I knew were too far away due to the strike. Sunday I walked out the door and saw a bookstore right next door that I had walked over for days. I am very happy that it has a nice sized english section. I got Labyrinth by Kate Mosse. Very good so far. I was very disappointed in Vagabonding
I thought it said nothing, listed a lot of references.
I have found my cafe. Vintage leather, silk and velvet tatty chairs. People playing dominoes, reading, talking and on the laptop. I love taking the fat weekend Herald Tribune in and having a cafe creme or beer blanche. The apartment was a bit bleak belonging to a man, last tenant a man and the caretaker a man. I bought myself a a lovely cup and saucer, placemat and napkin, some flowers and candles. Cleaned and arranged things in a pleasing arrangement. I have nested now and have my routine down. I eat out once a day, either lunch or dinner,
usually buy one pastry or chocolate.
Friday night I went to a fabulous jazz concert at a small cafe down the street. Stumbled on it earlier in the day. A blast. 4 horns, drums, bass and keyboard. They played for almost 4 hours with few breaks. The crowd watching was also great. Elvis, Jay Leno, and Ricky Ricardo were there. At least their lookalikes. Also two drunk women gave me other entertainment. At the end the cafe owner came over and asked if I liked it. I told him it was fabulous. Then the band leader spoke to me also. I told him how much I enjoyed it in my pitiful french. He said thank you for you. I was so touched.
Went to the grand magazins yesterday; got the metro there but had to walk and taxi back in the freezing rain. The lights and windows are even more beautiful than before. I had excellent Chocolat Chaud at the cafe at Gall. Laf. Mason Store. I love that store, even more so with all the Christmas stuff. I did not buy anything. At this point I have no home. It is sad but the freedom is also refreshing.
This ended up quite long but I felt like "talking".
Bye for now,
gg

What a lovely time! I'm glad you are taking care of yourself and buying some nice things to make the apartment more personal. Sorry to hear that Vagabonding isn't too interesting - I wanted to read it. Have fun!

Hello all
I am here until Dec 14; the jazz wasn`t in a club, just a small cafe in the neighborhood; I saw the sign on the chaulkboard earlier in the day. A great find. I will look at the name today and give you the address also of it and my cafe.
I am sleeping better than I have in years. I walk much during the day. Make a pot of mint tea like from Morocco. Settle in and read, then sleep so well. I found lovely fresh mint at a small Asian fruit store down the block.
Thanks for the replies. I am walking to the Marais today. Tomorrow is my Birthday. I will do something special but not sure yet. I go to an Autumn concert Sunday night at Opera Bastille. that is part of my BD to me. My glasses are the other. The selection is amazing here. I love them; Also got my hair done and eyebrows waxed for the celebration. Hair looks great and color is very good.
bye for now

gg, have a wonderful Birthday. It sounds like you are doing alot of special things for yourself.
You are certainly creating quite a comfortable "nest" by surrounding yourself with things that give you pleasure, like the table setting. For me, there is no better city than Paris to do some nesting
Again, Happy Birthday. Deborah
