Does anyone have a suggestion for a moderate/budget hotel in Heidelberg near Old Town for a 2 night stay in October 2004?

Check with the City Partner Hotel Hollaender Hof. (Travelocity.com) I stayed there 2 nights 6 years ago and thought it was great. Excellent location and may be hard to get a room.

If you think 95-100 Euro is moderate...

I can definitely recommend the Backmulde hotel, located just off Hauptstrasse (the main pedestrian street)--on Schiffgasse. When we stay in Heidelberg, this is where we always stay

comfortable rooms, friendly staff and a very good breakfast. Plus, free parking in the hotel parking lot, which is a big plus.

We discovered the Backmulde a few years ago and have stayed there 3 or 4 times. It is our final stop on trips to Germany before departing from Frankfurt airport. They leave an early breakfast out for us and we are gone! Less than an hour drive to Frankfurt airport. Nice rooms, nice people and good restaurant.

Be sure you get good directions on how to find it as it is tucked back in on a small street. Tricky to find the first time, but no problem after that. Very close to the river. You can park your car and walk 10 minutes to the Old Town area.

Depends on what your price/budget is. We loved this place - it was fantastic. Right next door is a brew house with some great food.
