Has anyone stayed at Terstan Hotel in Nevern Square, London?

When we first arrived at the Terstan Hotel they told us they had water problems on the third floor and had upgraded our room by arranging for us to stay at the Mayflower Hotel around the corner for two nights. Little did we know this was truly an upgrade. We arrived back at the Terstan Hotel to claim our room. When we walked in that room it was such a shock. The only thing in the room that was clean were the beds. Speaking of the beds, there were three beds in the room, cot size. The walls were splashed with an unknown substance, the carpet had not been swept, the bathroom floor was sticky around the commode. We immediately ask for another room and the room shown to us was worse than the room we were in. We stayed the night and left the hotel the next morning not to return.
We ended up going back to the Mayflower Hotel for the remainder of our trip. Our room at the Mayflower was recently remodeled and clean. We would stay there again.
If you book a trip with Go-Today and they book you with the Terstan Hotel in Nervern Square, refuse it and request another hotel.

SusiQ,

We had the same problem with the Terstan Hotel. I know you get what you pay for, but that hotel is a dump and we didn't expect that at all. I've traveled "budget" style many times and have never encountered any place quite like that.

The staff were some of the most unaccommodating people I've ever met. When we checked in the lady working the front desk at the time told us that we had been given a "really nice room". We were actually looking forward to seeing it.... BIG mistake. Our room was a triple, 3 twin size beds (no, actually they were smaller than a twin), dirty bedspreads, dirty carpet, dirty bathroom. If this was their "really nice room" I would hate to see the rest.

The walls looked as if they had never been painted or cleaned since the place was built - there were dirty splatters and substances dried on the walls. The door did not have any other lock besides the lock on the door knob on the outside of the door - no bolt, no chain, nothing. We were ground level, no lock on the window and the neighbor had a week's worth of food & butter pats sitting on his window sill. Mid-March and the room was hotter than the Devil's domain.

I will never recommend this hotel, even to an enemy. When we complained to the man working the front desk, he looked at us as if we had three heads. We told him how unhappy we were with his hotel, but he just didn't "get it".

Needless to say, we left and found another much nicer hotel. As I said before, we have traveled "budget style" many times and I've never been booked into a dump such as the Terstan. I expect small beds & small rooms but I never expect nasty. If anyone out there has any inclination of staying at this hotel... DON'T!!

After my ranting & raving about the Terstan.... I forgot to mention that I have also stayed at the Mayflower Hotel. The triple room we had was 3rd floor, very large, more than enough room for three people including luggage. The hotel was under a bit of renovation when we were there but it was remarkably quiet, very, very clean, lovely hardwood floor & nice big bathroom. The staff were more than helpful. The lady working the front desk on the day of our departure even carried my mother's suitcase from the lobby to the awaiting van. This hotel is located very close (1 minute walk) to the Earl's Court tube where you can access the Piccadilly, Circle & District lines. I would definitely recommend the Mayflower to budget travelers.

If you booked through Go-Today and you haven't already let them know about your dissatisfaction with this hotel, I certainly suggest that you do so.

This company gets consistently favorable feedback here, and if they are contracting with a hotel that has unacceptable standards of cleanliness (as opposed to being clean but threadbare, which is common among budget properties), they should hear about it. Perhaps they will even do something to compensate you.

Even if not, they might reconsider sending so much business to this particular hotel, since their reputation is also at stake.

I, too, have had the "pleasure" of staying at the Terstan. Unfortunately, I was traveling with a tour group so could not leave as I would most certainly have done otherwise. What a horror! When we entered our 3rd floor room for the first time, it was filled with probably hundreds of flies since the windows had been propped open to catch a nonexistent breeze. And the smell eminating from the bathroom (which appeared clean) was indescribable. The hotel staff, while seeming very apologetic, did nothing to solve either problem. And there were no other rooms available - can you believe it! I would have preferred sleeping out on the curb, quite frankly. Luckily we were only there for three nights.... and most of the flies did eventually leave (guess they couldn't stand it for long either). A truly memorable place (sigh)........

Melissa

I want to give an update to the problems mentioned above regarding our trip to London thru Go-Today and the Terstan Hotel.

We contacted Go-Today with our concerns regarding the Terstan Hotel in London. The customer service rep at Go-Today was very polite, professional and concerned regarding the condition of the Terstan Hotel and the treatment we received from the hotel staff.

The rep said Go-Today would investigate our complaint thru their London office and also speak directly to the hotel.

After about two months Go-Today contacted me with good news. After inspection of the hotel and investigation into our complaint, as a gesture of good will Go-Today credited us for the portion of our hotel stay that was unused (we checked out of the Terstan early and found a room at the Mayflower) and also extended credit certificates for each traveler to use in the future.

The amount we were credited does not fully cover the entire out-of-pocket expense that we incurred but we feel that Go-Today does value our business and tried to compensate us for the troubles we encountered at the Terstan Hotel.

Based on our recommendation, Go-Today is investigating whether they can secure a contract with the Mayflower hotel. I would definitely use Go-Today's services again.

Great story. Glad you posted the follow up to your complaints about the hotel, and that the company you booked thru responded to your concerns.

Have hotels, etc. not learned that this is the Internet age, and "gossip" travels at light speed these days, LOL!

This is a great board to visit.
