Thank you all for you kind comments.

I am leaving for Paris/London tomorrow..just short 1 week trip this time, but will return to Paris end of Jan for 2 months.

Just printed out my boarding passes. Weather looks good for whole trip!

I do have some great dining reservations with good Paris friends. Will not have much time in London.

Had to put one of my cats down this morning. New it was coming, but always sad!

a bientot...

Joan

Oh Joan,

So sorry to hear about your kitty, I know what a sad time that can be. Pleased to learn about your trip to London and Paris, two of my favorite places. I wish you a lovely trip and hope you will share some of your travels and the fabulous food photos with us again.

Best wishes,

Scootoir

Hi gracejoan, thanks for the update. Enjoy your mini trip! Awful about your cat, that's tough.

Hi Gracejoan. I am so sorry about your cat. I went through that two years ago and it still hurts. You will not recognize me. I followed your food posts when you shared them but I have only started posting this year. Have fun. I hope you will post again.

Hi Gracejoan
Sorry to hear about your cat. I know how attached we get to our pets.
I so enjoyed your reports from Paris and learned much about several really nice restaurants.
Even though we have never met, it seems we are never in Paris at the same time I feel that I know you from reading your always informative and lovely posts.
It is a pity that some nasty people upset you with their mean comments.
Hopefully there is a way that I can be included in your postings.
Have a fabulous trip.
Tina

Oh, I remember how I once killed a trip report by maitaitom (which thank god he started over again) by making a rather acerbic comment about his mention of the death of a pet, which caused the next ten people or so to offer their condolences rather than remembering that this is not the place for that sort of thing.

Gracejoan, if you want to talk about your pets, as tragic as their demise may be, I recommend returning to your private messages because you really do not need to share all of this with Fodor's. This is friendly advice, believe me.

Well, shoot! I'm pulling up France posts while planning a trip for next year, people have gotten a great source to put a quick note up after being chased off the Forum - a lady with some really good inputs on my favorite city in the world. She made a casual mention of her cat's demise while she was preparing to leave - and she gets told it's inappropriate?? Sheesh. That's hardly "talking about" - its a quick mention.

Happy Travels, Gracejoan, and I regret not being on your private list!! I, too, miss your input!

Or, kerouac, you could skip reading posts by Fodorites that don't fascinate you. Just my friendly advice.

sorry many of you are now receiving some nasty comments due to your expressing your sorrow for my "wee" mention of having to put one of my cats down.

these are the kind of things that are so very unnecessary on forums, and what turns so many of us off from posting

As Denise has said...skip reading posts that don't interest you...and if you don't have anything nice to say..don't say anything at all!!

jo ann..you are welcome to join us....

a bientot...

Joan

Gracejoan
As I said in the other thread, those with low self esteem always seem to have an axe to grind. Too bad on them.

Trading travel info, tidbits and recommendations may be the main thrust of this forum, but what possible harm could there be in sharing a bit of personal history from time to time.

I have noticed of late that quite a few of the familiar names I've enjoyed reading have gone and that's a shame.

I'm just saying that you should take this sort of subject to the 'Lounge.' This is a travel branch.

I don't think the Fodor's Board has a problem with people making some personal comments between one another. I think they probably take more exception to those who try to make the rules for Fodor's!

Agreed, God forbid anyone mention something personal. We all make "friends" on the forum and I think it is normal to do so. We aren't robots. If you are not interested, skip it and leave it alone. The number of responses in reply indicates that others are interested and don't mind a small personal note.

@kerouac-surely you jest??? Posters constantly sprinkle personal info in their posts on the travel forum and not just the lounge. TR's generally include lots of personal info, including the great TR's that Maitaom writes and you mention. It seems apparent that you have some issue with gracejoan as you keep popping up on her threads with complaints or criticisms veiled as being helpful. Maybe you could exercise some self control and stay off her posts.

Well if this thread -- whose question was answered immediately -- has become the "anything goes - free speech" thread, I will be respectful of dead pets and post my link the my report about the Paris pet cemetery: http://tinyurl.com/asnieres

That should make everybody happy. As for gracejoan, she has dozens of her own threads on this site (and this is not one of them), so true fans should probably go to those threads to interact.

Yes, I do realize that a lot of the personal tidbits that get posted here are due to the fact that Fodor's does not have a private message function like the other travel sites, so feel free to tell us about your brand of underwear, what you had for dinner last night, and anything you want to say about constipation problems.

I enjoyed her reports too. This forum seems to have a very long history with a tight group and I have no idea about "Kerouac" other than travelchat hit it just about right in above post. Kerouac's last post sounds like a middle schooler.

OMG! I too once received incorrect admonition from Kerouac. This however is beyond the pale.

I am so sorry to see this sophomoric behavior.

Gracejoan I love reading your posts. Please continue!! Mary

Joan, you certainly have a loyal following. Perhaps you can just ignore the bullies? Their postings speak for themselves, and I do think that it helps perpetuate the myth of the "rude Frenchman" which is unfortunate since my personal experience has been overwhelmingly positive.
