Has anyone ever admitted to being a troll?

Or is the very essence of trolldom to never admit it? Just wondering...

Marilyn, I vaguely recall a thread on the US board where the troll was upfront, after accomplishing the task (and doing a good job, too!). Couldn't tell you the screen name or subject, though.

I think you answered your own question. By the time the really good troll is outed, they move on to the next thing.

Marilyn, funny to see you mention that as I've used Essence of Trolldom before, and have discovered that it really drives women, who live under bridges, wild.

Yes. I think I did. I think I admitted to some thread on Fodors in which I (an alterego) asked for advice re transporting a special pet rabbit on a train to or from London, which had to be in the dark or couldn't be in the dark (forgot which)--something like that. There may have been others. Trolls do not have to be mean. I wasn't. I've done lots of practical jokes in real life, too, also never mean. Some of them have been at work, and usually my boss has been in cahoots with me. I eventaully confess, if I'm not found out first.

And in which magazines would you find those annoying scent cards for Essence of Troll?

Marilyn, I forgot to mention that what I used was the French version...

Eau de Troillette

Grasshopper, Gentletroll's Quarterly? Trelle? Comostrollitan?

I don't know, Marilyn, maybe if a troll hit me in the face, I'd recognize it. Otherwise, I treat everything as a serious question.

Right now, there is someone on another thread teaching people how to earn a black belt in tapas ordering.

Should I treat this as a troll response?

Why does an admission of trolling carry with it more credibility than anything else that person would say? Admittedly, it doesn't seem in the person's interest to lie about being a troll, but people have made false confessions to far more serious things.

In order to get into the mood to create a really good troll, I sit in front of the computer and eat a box of trollines. My favorite are from Purdy's Chocolates.

Ooo, Sue, now that's an intriguing idea! Maybe I'll start claiming credit for lots of "troll" posts. I wonder how the real troll would feel about someone else claiming credit for his/her work? Hah!

I've fessed up to trolls, pre-registration days. My personal favorite was the one I started on the US board about a "Cattle Drive/Cattle Slaughter Vacation." It became interesting when people replied, without reading the part where I fessed up.

I fess up. The thread I started last night about winning MegaMillions was a troll...a thread designed for no practical purpose than to get others to post replies. While it COULD have happened, I didn't REALLY think I was going to win last night. Well, not really. I mean, it could have happened but if I'd thought it really would have, I would have checked my numbers before I went to bed instead of after I got up this morning. I mean, it's much more likely that I will win the $10M jackpot than the $230M one.
