Half Fare Card

Hi all,

Can anyone tell us where we can buy swiss half fare cards? Is it only limited to airport stations or can we buy it from any station in Switzerland? Our first stop will be Basel SBB by train.

Thanks!

Try the ticket shop at www.sbb.ch -so you already have it when you get to Switzerland.

The HalbtaxAbo or Half Fare Card is listed under SeasonTickets Switzerland.

You will have to mail in a pdf form, with a foto attached and a photocopy of your passport. And you will receive your half fare card also by mail from SBB.

P.S. I guess you already made sure that a 12 month half fare pass is really the best option for your travel needs in CH.

The cards are used by large numbers of Swiss people, so you don't have to go to an airport to buy one. You'll be able to buy one at Basel SBB station.

Oh wow.. I'm so overwhelmed by the quick response! We're actually from Australia so the online application option is out because they don't send out to here. We're really after the 30 day option because we won't be there for long. As long as we are able to buy the 99 Fr card at Basel SBB without having to go to the airport one then that's great!
Thank you all so much for your help!

still consider your options as the Swiss Pass, especially consecutive day ones can often be better overall bargains than the Half-fare card but it of course depends on how much your are traveling and where you are going

there are some conveyances in the Berner Oberland for instance that are covered in full by Swiss Pass and rather pricey even at half off

the difference in price between Half-Fare month and cheapest Swiss Pass is not all that much - that is if you buy it in Australia as the same Swiss Passes are about 20% more in Switzerland i believe, at least that's what other Aussies report.

Half-fare cards TMK are only sold in Switzerland and at any station.
