Gulets, swimming and jellyfish?
My family is planning a week on a gulet next summer. A friend recently mentioned that last summer she had heard/read about a significant increase in jellyfish in the mediterranean, to the extent that it wasn't pleasant swimming from gulets. Has anyone heard or experienced anything like this? If so, do you know if there's a particular area to avoid? Any information would be most appreciated. Thanks!

Jely fishes are not big problem in Turkey. Aegean has some but thats it. I did not come across at Mediterranean. Probably your frineds was one off an incident. Also as Sinan suggested you can ask your captain for a suitable place for swimming breaks. I know some guests did it last summer and they were all very satisfied with their gulet cruise even in Aegean parts.
More than jelly fish issue please concantrate where to get a good boat with good crew, is the key with gulet charters.
Bon Voyage,
Murat

I went on a cruise with Alaturka from Olympos to Fethiye and there were some jellyfish in the water, especially in butterfly valley. One girl on the boat got stung. The captain had some cream to heal her, but there were quite a number of them in the water. One member of the crew was fishing them out of the water for us they wouldnt sting us. I wouldnt be scared of them, just be cautious. The girl that got stung didnt seem to be in too much pain so I wouldnt worry to much about it.

..well.. i differ in opinion. it can be very serious, and one should not swim near them.
however, your captain should know where to be able to swim without them. ( if that is possible)
but it is true that last year in parts of the med, near spain, at least, there were hundreds of kilos of jelly fish .. it was horrible.
