Guidebooks for Extremadura, Spain?

I am trying to fnd a guidebook for Extremadura, Spain and not having much success (I've tried Amazon (US & UK), Barnes & Noble, etc.)

I have both the Michelin and Eyewitness Spain, but am hoping to find a book with more detail on this specific region.

Any suggestions? Even out of date books would be welcome.

Many thanks ... Ger

Hi Ger!
It's so good to have you here again. We're doing an indepth, 10 day Extremadura tour in March, and you're right-it gets short shrift in the guidebooks. I finally ordered 3 very detailed guidebooks in Spanish from
www.casadellibro.com
But I'm taking along the green Michelin and chapters from Lonely Planet, from Fodors (very small), from Penelope Casas' Discovering Spain: An Uncommon Guide and some food/wine/travel magazine articles, plus Maria's trip report, and I'll try to write a trip report when I return April 1.
There's also
www.turismoextremadura.com with English page.
If you have any specific questions, feel free to email me and I can give you our detailed itinerary.
Regards,
Maribel

Hello Mirabel

I have just sent you a note asking for ALL your files, and advice on where to go next in Spain. Then I started browsing, found Maria's trip report and thought THAT's a place I'd like to visit! It will probably only be for 3-4 days, driving from Seville airport. I am sorely tempted to do it in Feb, but will probably have to put it off until later.

Thanks for the information. Please YES, I would love you to e-mail me your itinerary.

As soon a I read the trips reports from here and the guide books, I'll be posting with LOTS of questions.

Best regards ... Ger

Ger,
I'll get those items off to you just as soon as I can.
I just thought of another sources:

The Spanish National Tourist Office has a brochure on Extremadura and also a brochure on Jewish Spain, with a little write-up on Hervás, which we plan to visit.

Mag/paper articles:
NY Times did an artticle back in May (10), '98 called "Land of the Conquerors" that you could pull from the archives if you're registered.
Also from the London Times (www.timesonline.co.uk), in the HIdden Europe section, "Extremadura, the region that time forgot".
T&L did one in March, '02
Conde Nast Traveler (American version) in March '98 which you might find in your local library.

Plus the Cadogan Spain guide has a rather good chapter on Extremadura. I really like the detail of the Cadogans. I'm also taking that chapter along.

Hope this helps.

Maribel:

I went to the Spainish Tourist board in Toronto today and they gave me a regional map, a guidebook with itineraries for Extremadura-Castile-La Mancha and a smaller one specifically for Extremadura. They also gave me a book and a map providing details on the Paradors. I am delighted!

I have actually never taken advantage of tourist offices before - shocking lack of planning on my part gt. For my future trips, I am going to build up a library of information.

For those travelling to Spain, here are the Spanish Tourism websites for:

Canada:

US:
