If you are concerned about being alone in your room at night, try blocking the door with a chair, your suitcase, or something like that. If someone tried to enter, some resulting noise should wake you up. But this thread is most likely a bunch of bull, anyway...
Bolt the door when you are in your room, especially when sleeping and showering. Check the peephole before opening, only bring the valuables you really need and put your worries aside.

Thanks Alice & TJ... for your sweet answers and concerns. I am a reasonably brave, smart, lucky, and seasoned traveler AND I think this thread is most likely whooie too, BUT it's just that its supposed location is so near where I'm staying myself my first time in the city. - Susan
After reading all these messages I was a little surprised to say the least.
Everytime I go, aprx 3x per year, to Amsterdam I stay either in the hotel Kap, or, if they are fully booked , at the hotel Asterisk.
They both are located in the same street, a quiet one in the centre of town, and both very nice.
I never had complaints.
The Kap is smaller and more home-style with their interior, service etc., the Asterisk bigger and just as friendly.
Rooms are oke, service is good, prices reasonable and the owners, the family Hagendorn, though strict witrh their rules in the hotel (no drugs, breakfast free if you pay cash) always warm and friendly!
My first choice is the Kap, but there is definitely nothing wrong with the Asterisk.
A safe haven on your holidays!!
So lets stop all this nonsense.

Considering the fact that the messages are over a year old why would you be so surprised. Times and places do change you know.

The "nonsense" stopped well over a year ago, Bocheck date of last post before yours, so why top the post?

You are restarting something, not stopping it.
