Does anyone have recommendations for great guesthouses or B&Bs in Normandy. We will be there for about four or five days and want to find a good base from which to explore the area. Thanks!

We have reservations for two nights in June at La Ferme du Pressoir (see www.bandbnormandie.com). I found it after seeing numerous very positive reviews here and on tripadvisor.com. Haven't stayed there yet, so can't give a first hand report.

Last fall, I stayed in a delightful B&B n Normandy,just outside the village of Mortain, about 45 minutes east of Mont. St. Michel. The place is called Le Logis
www.gitefilatre.fr. It is run by a delightful couple. The place is a working farm and they sell their own Pommeau, Marmalades, Confits, etc. The property has a separate 'dovecote" which consists of two rooms for couples or the larger "family" room in the main building, which can accomodate 5 people. The rates were about 43 Euros a night including breakfast. Dinner is also available for 14 Euros extra.. All in all, a lovely place.

We stayed last fall at Ferme de la Ranconniere, in Crepon. It was about 30-45" drive from the beaches. It was beautiful and peaceful, with lovely rooms. www.ranconniere.fr. It was about 45" drive to Mont St. Michel.

We stayed at the Les Ramparts in Bayeux. Lovely rooms, reasonable prices, and a very convenient but quiet location just blocks from the center of town. The young couple running the place are very friendly and quite accommodating.

Bayeaux is a wonderful base for exploring the D-Day beaches. Many tours start at this picturesque location, and in the evening, there's a nice selection of shops and restaurants. One of the best meals of our last trip to France was at Le Petit Bistro, a tiny place (reservations are a must), but quite memorable.
