Melissa, good question and I personally think it may depend on how enamoured you are with the various aspects of The Tower. Once could easily spend several hours there by the time you look at the jewels, the ravens, that chopping block, listen to the Yeomen Warders telling you about the history, visiting St. Peter in Chains, etc., etc., and then there are those who might be in and out in an hour.
I, personally, think I could do it but wouldn't necessarily recommend it. I'll be interested in what others might say so topping this....

Melissa, I would never schedule two biggies on the same day. Particularly if I'd never been to either. You can never know what might intrigue you.
As an example, when we took our grandchildren to the Tower a few years ago we happened upon a demonstration in the White Tower of how a knight put on his armor. I'm glad we had the time to watch without the pressure of being elsewhere.
I too suggest you GO to Greenwich by the boat from Westminster Pier. The commentary is quite informative and amusing. I don't remember any such on the return so I would advise the walk thru the tunnel to Island Gardens - the best view of Greenwich is from here. You then take the DLR to Canary Wharf and the Jubilee Line. If you have time, spend a little walking around before hopping on the Tube. There is some modern sculpture to enjoy.

Robespierre reminded me of a 10/11 year old boy who was loudly proclaiming that the clock at the Observatory was one hour slow. Of course, it was May and the clock was GMT.
