Greek Island in late April with teens???
How is this time of year (school vacation). Is it too cool or too sleepy to be a fun destination?
Thanks for any thoughts from you Greece traverls out there!

It won't be perfect beach weather and some shops and attractions won't yet be open. If your teens are old enough to go to the singles bars some of them should provide them with some fun. If not, there will still be some younger travellers in and around Fira and at the beaches.

Greece has a nice, moderate, sunny climate - you may need a jacked or sweater in the evenings, but it will be pleasant. It isn't tourist season, so attractions might not be open for as many hours as in August, but crowds won't be as big. What about doing a cruise of the Saronic Islands with the teenagers?

Personally I think you (and especially your teens) would have a lot more fun if you stuck to the Greek mainland, with perhaps a quick visit to one of the Saronic Gulf islands if you insist.
Greek weather in April is unpredictable. You could be lucky and have warm days and cool evenings, or you could be unlucky and arrive during a cold, windy spell. Most people find water temperatures too cold for swimming in April.
The Greek mainland has so many wonderful places to explore: Peloponnese, Delphi, Meteora, and of course Athens, to name a few. Temperatures should be ideal for sightseeing. The Greek Easter weekend is Apr 6-9 in 2007, so you won't have to worry about crowds and busy roads in late April.
The islands never shut down completely over the winter - residents still need to eat and shop - but establishments catering mainly for tourists will be closed until May or early June. If you do opt for a Greek island, pick a larger one, eg Crete or Santorini, that has more to do.

gwelsh - I'm travelling in mid-April with two teens (15 & 17). I'd like to swap info about what to do with them. If you're interested, please send an email to [email protected]. Hope to hear from you! Jennifer
