Two great hotels we've tried - one in Positano (Villa La Tartana at 150 Euros/night) is close to the "beach" and wonderful shops, the other is in Rome (Nicolas Inn also at 150 Euros/night) is close to the Forum and Colossuem.

In Rome, try Hotel Lancelot.

Glad to help. There are many beautiful places in Positano - have fun, and have a lemoncello or two. And if you're really brave, have a grappa!

Villa Rosa Room #32 OR #33 "TO DIE FOR"
Positano is so... romantic as is Venice. "Donna Rosa" Il Ristorante is the best restaurant high upon a hill in Positano.
Hotel Flora Rm # 47 in Venice is also
very romantic and in a great location. and in Rome there is the Teatro Pace 33 room #402 which is a renovated private house that used to belong to a cardinal. Boutique style located on a tiny street in a vibrant area near Piazza Navona. Right next door there is an amazing Cafe della Pace where we had the most memorable meal for only 24Euros for the both of us.It was very quaint and romantic. Can't wait to go back next year...Enjoy and congrats on your upcoming nuptials.

In June 2004 Pensione Accademia was under $200 and we loved our superior room with a garden view. Antiques in the sitting room right outside our bedroom door on the second floor, we felt like it was our private sitting room, even though it wasn't, becasue nobody was ever in it at the same time as we were! Great staff, good breakfast too.

In Florence Hotel Silla was under $200 in June 2004 as well. www.hotelsilla.it It was just across the Ponte alle grazie bridge on the south side of the river, but walking distance to the Uffizzi gallery, Boboli Gardens, and Santa Croce areas. Excellent staff, they offered by e-mail to make our advance museum reservations for Uffizzi gallery and Accademia and that was so convenient! Rooms were nice in a moderate way. Quiet location which is rare for florence, where traffic and noisy vespas are a problem outside many of the other hotels.

Happy honeymoon!

Hi 2,

May I suggest flying home from Naples?

You can add a night to Venice and a night to Naples (in case something happens with the paperwork).

Happy honeymoon.

We are traveling to Italy for our wedding and honeymoon in late April, and I can recommend three hotels that we've reserved for under $200 a night.

In Florence, we are staying at a B&B, the Residenza del Proconsolo (www.proconsolo.it), which is right across from the Duomo. Our room has a large bed, private bath, fireplace and balcony, and breakfast will be served to our room, all for less than 150Euro per night.

In Positano, we are staying at the Villa Rosa for less than 150Euro per night, and it looks to have wonderful charm, private terraces, large beds and private bath.

We, too, have legal paperwork to complete in Naples, and our wedding planner suggested that we book a night at Hotel Rex (www.hotel-rex.it) because it's convenient to the government offices. It's right on the water and is about 125Euro per night.

A good website that offers guests' reviews of hotels is www.tripadvisor.com

For Venice, the Locanda Orseolo is #1 at tripadvisor. Another place that is well liked, in a quiet but accessible location, is La Calcina.

For our honeymoon we stayed in Pensione Accademia with a canal view. Awesome location! In Rome, we were on via del corso in Hotel Regno. Very close to Pantheon, and room had a mini-frig and was modern. Check em out! Both under $200

In Venice, try the Hotel Riva.

Pop for an extra 10 euro and you can get a canal view. 3-5 minutes from San Marco, maybe 10 to the Rialto.
