In my opinion, at least four hotels in Praiano are better than Il Tritone:
Holiday, Margherita, Onda Verde and Tramonto d'Oro.
Have a nice trip.

Hi,

We stayed at the Tramonta D'Oro and loved it. It is a three star hotel with a fabulous view, great owners, and a wonderful pool on the roof. We could see the Tritone and it looks wonderful. It is more expenisve, but I think it is more up scale. They have their own beach and I think there is an elevator that takes you to the beach. The views will be fabulous and you will have a wonderful time. If you want to save some money go for the Tramonto D'Oro.

The Triton review was on Frommers, It is terrible!!! Said the room has BUGS!
We were about to make the reservation until I saw the review. I even emailed the review to the hotel, no response yet.

Hey az, the hotel emailed me back. they say everyone can't be pleased all the time!! I do understand that but, they didn't comment on the bug problem and the dirty rooms. They did say that they doubt anyone was rude to that reviewer but since we weren't there when it happened, we'll never know.

To Vincenzo,
Could you also rate some hotels in Sorrento? We are planning to stay there next summer.

Lewis--WOW! found the frommer's review, and was astonished. i can understand why you must be perplexed; how can two people have such drastically different experiences?? we were there in May/June 01, and at that time the hotel was managed by the gagliano family. could it have changed hands since then?? the frommers reviewer did not say when she stayed there.
the gagliano family was most accomodating. we arrived late because of traffic problems due to a football (soccer) match in rome, and they served us a late meal on the balcony of our room so we would not have to dress for dinner. they readily answered our numerous questions about sites, parking, routes, etc., provided maps, and even gave us a reduced rate when we decided to cancel our reservations in sicily in order to return to tritone for a few days AFTER the high tourist season began. after our visit, they followed up with a thank you and even a nice greeting the following Xmas. simply can't believe that's the same family the frommers person dealt with!
as for bugs, i doubt they were raoches or any such; our room was spotless and cleaned daily (and very comfortable). however, if you leave the louvered doors to the balcony open, which we did every nite in order to hear the sea/rural sounds, you should expect a few bugs. no mosquitoes, however.
the furniture was NOT large, stuffed, pillowed, etc., but we found it quite nice, and the room was considerably larger than the 4 star we stayed at in rome.
sometimes you experience what you create; i wonder it that may have been the difference in our experiences???
there have been other posts on tritone over the past year; you might do text search to see if you can find them.
good luck.
