Myer,
I was at the Reina Cristina this past March. Location was great--two or three blocks from the cathedral, and another couple of blocks to the main intersection where you can catch local busses to wherever you need to go. The breakfast buffet was more than adequate by European standards, and there was a caffe attached to the hotel itself. The room was small but extremely comfortable and clean with a newer marble bathroom. I thought the Reina Cristina was very much worth the price and would definitely stay there again. There could be some street noise depending on where your room is facing, but I thought the noise level was fine. Check out the Rants and Raves section for some other opinions.

Dear Myer,
I also stayed at the Reina Cristina in March. We had a 4 person room. It was very quiet and large. Nice bathroom. I would definitely stay there again. Take a look at my trip report. Staff at Reina Cristina couldn't have been more helpful in taking care of my sick husband and didn't charge extra for him staying in another room all day, even though we had checked out already.

I stayed at the Carmen around this time last year and would definately not recommend it. The staff at the reception desk were unhelpful and sour faced. The room was small, dingy and in desperate need of refurbishment - the carpet was frayed and the toilet flush was hanging off the wall. However, to be fair - there were a couple of plus points - the location was good and the view from the roof top terrace was amazing. I travelled around Andalucia for 3 weeks and this was by far the worst hotel I stayed in.

I agree with the opinions on the Reina Cristina.
Looks like the Carmen has some older rooms, but mine was great, newly refurbished, quiet, and pretty big for a standard double with a cheap internet rate. The staff was unimpressive. The rooftop is great and I bet the little pool and bar up there are very nice in season ( I stayed in the winter ).

Spent 3 nights at the Casa Capitel Nazari in April. Depends on what you're looking for whether or not this place is for you. Our room was super small, but had everything we needed, was clean and reasonably-priced, mid 70 Euro range at the time. Thought the location was good, on river below the Alhambra, nice views of the lit ALhambra from the hotel's street at night, lots of conveniences in the area (bars, mercados, etc.) Hotel offers breakfast, but the one day we thought we'd try it, they were out of just about everything and most of the people in the room were grumbling about the meal. On the whole, our stay there was a positive one. Don't know if all the rooms are as small. I have to admit, I'm hesitant to make any recommendations for hotels, which is not a criticism of Casa Capitel Nazari, it's just that even though we found it acceptable doesn't mean that you will, and I'd hate to have steered you wrong. Enjoy Granada wherever you end up staying.
