I would really recommend walking to Gandria and taking the ferry back. It's a lovely walk.
You can't drive down to the town (unless you have permission). You park above it because the the road is up on the hillside and the town is on the water's edge.

Thanks Schuler- so could we park at the top of the hill/cliff above Gandria and walk down? How far to get down? Is there any shuttle service to get back up? I'm thinking of this as a brief stop after we've departed Ascona and are heading to Sils-Maria via Lake Como which Ingo recommended. It appears that the route Ingo suggested would take us right past Gandria. I'm not envisioning a ferry since we just want to make a quick stop- we wouldn't be heading back to Lugano etc. I'm still confused on the logistics.

Check out this map. You'll see that it's not a far walk. I don't believe there's a shuttle service.
