Good Base Town from Frankfort Airport
Just wondering which town would be a good base for about 3 nights to explore the area in the Frankfort area? We would fly in and don't know if we will rent a car (most likely not), but are wondering if towns like Heidleburg, etc. are accessible from the Frankfort Airport?

Try Frankfurt itself. There is plenty to see and do there and the location to trains certainly can't be beat. There are some lovely neighborhoods to stay in, completely filled with turn of the century archtecture.
Frankfurt has lots of museums as well as several medieval churches, including one that dates from even earlier, the Jusitinus church in Frankfurt Höchst, built in 850. I also recommend the St.Leonards Church, Deutsche Orden Church, and the Alte Nikolai. All built 1200-1300. A visit to the Karmelite Cloister to see the Jörge Ratgeb Frescos should be at the top of anyones list visiting this area. These are the largest wall paintings north of the Alps and date from 1513-519.
Best neighborhoods - Westend, Bornheim, Sachsenhausen. There are some really nice B&B's in these areas and great Farmers markets too.
There are lots of very pretty towns in the Taunus Mountain area north of Frankfurt, such as Bad Homburg, Kronburg or Königstein. Can't beat the view from up here and the S-bahn into Frankfurt is only 20-30 min.

There are many towns that can be easily reached by train from the Frankfurt (Main) Airport. Mainz is about 25 minutes. Heidelberg can be reached in about an hour. Marburg is about 1-1/4 Hour. Würzburg is about 1-1/2 hour. Frankfurt is only about 15 minutes. It comes down to what you would like to see in the area.
The Mittelrhein is one nearby tourist area.

It can be explored from Frankfurt or Mainz, or any of several small towns along the Rhine.

or Louisville hsv.
Frankfort, Kentucky - state capitol
Frankfurt (am Main), Germany - major city in Hesse.
We stayed in Bacharach and it worked fine.
Love Germany! Never been to Kentucky (except the Cincinnati Airport - which is in Kentucky!)
