We're home safe and sound after a blissfully uneventful trip. We've just come home from spending a lovely Christmas eve with our best friends and now will enjoy sleeping in our own bed for the first time since August 31st.

Thanks again to you all for your good ideas, guidance and good humour throughout our stay in London. We've made some great friends! Both SO and I wish you a wonderful Christmas and hope that you're spending it with your best friends and family too.

Just wondering how your re-entry back to "real" life went after a month. Would you do it again in another foreign city?

Hi emily,
I haven't had a chance to check back onto Fodors for a while but it's nice to hear from you.

My re-entry into real life was less than perfect. It's lovely to see everyone again but it's been cold and snowy here since we came back. Most importantly, I came back to find out I've lost my job. When I think back to being in London and how carefree I felt there, it makes me sad.

Would I do it again? Yes, absolutely, if I didn't have to worry about money and if my SO would agree. He's more of a homebody than I am. I'd go back to London at the drop of a hat. It would be a little more difficult to live in a country where we didn't speak the language but I'd give it a go. For the short-term (say a month or so), I'd love to go back to Italy and live in one of the Tuscan towns like Montepulciano. For the longer term, I'd need a bigger city.

But yes, for sure I'd do it again.

So sorry to hear about the job - best of luck for finding something better, and I hope you'll be back soon.

GTG-

I'm so sorry to hear about the job -I can relate.

<When I think back to being in London and how carefree I felt there, it makes me sad.> Take care of yourself and I'll second TDudette's recommendation. At least you have some great memories and traveling with your hubby.

Best wishes.

GTG - that's a bummer. i hope that things start to look up for you soon, and as TD says, a career as a travel writer may beckon.

and you will always have [west] hampstead.
