Searching for Thread About "Different" London Attractions
Last year before visiting London I was reading a thread, not sure how old, about out-of-the-way London experiences and different places to vsit. I thought I had bookmarked it, but I've searched and can't find it. We are leaving in a couple of weeks for London and Northumberland and I wanted to read it again because it was so good. I think it mentioned the Dulwich Gallery, but can't be sure. I'll keep searching, but if anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate it!

Thank you both for your replies. VonVan, I am pretty sure that is the thread, I remember the Alexandra Palace mention. Can't wait to read it again and make some of the final or not decisions about our activities. I'll make sure and bookmark it this time.
thursdaysd, looking forward to reading your suggested thread also. So much to do and never enough time!

I can't remember if this is mentioned in any of those sites, but if you are interested in Legal London, [or perhaps just like history and/orgardens] I can recommend a visit to the Temple just south of Fleet Street [by Temple Bar]. The gardens of Inner Temple are particularly fine [open from 12.30 -3-pm every weekday] and if you wish you can book to have lunch in Middle Temple Hall [where Twelfth Night was first performed].

Other things you might like to see in the Temple are the Temple Church, and across the road the Royal Courts of Justice [a mock gothic pile] which houses a vey interesting exhibition of legal dress through the ages, amongst other things. A bit further along the route of the No 11 bus [the best way to get here, IMO] up Ludgate Hill is the Old Bailey [aka the Central Criminal court] which you can enter as a member of the public and see a case in action, and St Paul's Cathedral. Or head north from the back entrance of the Royal Courts across Carey Street into Lincoln's Inn to see another lovely part of Dickensian London.
Have a great trip!

annhig, we were thinking of having lunch at Middle Temple Hall, it looks beautiful! The website does say there is a break from serving lunch for about a month, but we may be able to make it as we come back to London 2 days before that. We are hoping to head out to Hampstead, never visited there before and visit Keat's house. Last year we were to spend the day in Richmond, but the tube wasn't running.
We do have tickets to the James Cook exhibition at the British Library. Looking forward to that.
Plays. pubs, castles, museums and churches, who could ask for anything more? Thanks for all the suggestions.

I'm glad you liked the suggestion, idesofmarch. I think they stop on 3rd August so i hope you can make it. They do tours too that I think you can do after lunch. And do try to see Inner Temple Gardens - they are lovely.
Hope you have a great trip.

I realize that you may already be there, but in case you get to read this:
One of the best shows I've ever seen (if you like musicals) is Everybody's Talking About Jamie at the Apollo Theatre on Shaftsbury Avenue.
Also, if you have never been there, the Churchill War Rooms are fantastic, and the Cortauld Gallery is a somewhat-hidden gem, if you like 1875-1935 painting.
Have you taken a self-guided walk along the Regents Canal from Little Venice to Camden Lock?
