Glasgow Early AM Flight Questions
Hi,
We are in Glasgow for one night in August before flying off to Croatia. Our flight leaves at 6:20am, so I figure we have to be there at....5:00am? 4:30? As such we want to be as close to the airport as possible while still being able to get into town as we'll have most of an afternoon and evening to spend in the city.
Any suggestions? Should we just stay in town - we were going to pick the BlueSky Hostel and suck up a taxi in the am.
Anything we should know about Glasgow taxi cabs?
Cheers,
Naxos

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express and walked a very short distance under a covered walkway into the airport. One nice thing is that their breakfast buffet (which is not terrific, but is OK) starts at 4 AM, so you don't miss out by having an early flight.
But there's nothing wrong with your idea of staying in town and using a taxi if you like.

There ARE buses from Buchanan St round the clock (leaving 0230, 0330, 0430, 0500 then half hourly), taking 25 mins. Only you know what time you have to be at the airport (why on earth would anyone want to be there two hours early?)
If you want to spend the night in Glasgow (the area round the airport is pretty soul-destroying. Kind of place you have sales conferences in, generally with prices to match), you'll need a taxi (about £20 to the airport), or walk to the bus station. Probably half an hour from your hostel to Buchanan St, but invigorating - especially if you spend the night in the clubs, and catch up on sleep on the plane.
Cabs CAN be hailed on some streets, even at 0430. But the hostel will tell you how to prebook one if you don't fancy a nice early morning stroll.

II wouldn't spend time at the airport - but I WOULD sleep there. Drop your bags at the hotel and then go into town for some final sightseeing and dinner then back out to the hotel at night.. W/ a 6 AM flight I doubt you'll be out partying in central Glasgow -- unless you plan on not sleeping at all.
Instead of catching a bus or a cab in the wee small hours - you can simply walk from your hotel to the Terminal a little after 5:00

Thank you all for you replies - lots of great information. I figured that its technically an international flight and the rule at our airport is 2 hrs ahead. I figured that might be too early-lol! I think staying at the airport is the best way to go. I'll take a look at how much at the Holiday and Travel Inn's respecitve websites. Perhaps what we will save on a taxi will make up for the more expensive non-hostel accomodation. After our international flight to Glasgow I don't know that we'll make it through the night awake and partying in Glasgow - but its a nice thought!
