Gillingham taxi

Can any of you tell me whether there is a taxi stand at the at the Gillingham train station? I am planning a trip to Stourhead Gardens, and would like to take a taxi from the train station.

Also, can you tell me what the approximate taxi cost would be? It is only a few miles.

Hi Joyce - It's about 4 miles. I'd guess it'd cost about £15, give or take.

Mucky - Are you sure there's a taxi rank at the station? I don't remember one.

Alec - We're talking Gillingham in Dorset, not Kent.

There are two stations called Gillingham in England. The one in Kent is pronounced "Jilling'um" and the one near Stourhead is pronounced "Ghilling'um". Be very careful to select the right one when looking up train times or directions.

It's 6.5 miles from Gillingham, so my guess is that the one-way fare will be around £13-£15.

Everyone, thank you for the information.

Do you know if it is possible to call for a return taxi from Stourhead? Are there phones there? Or are Stourhead staff willing to make this type of call for customers?

I'm sure there is a payphone there, or you can just ask the driver to pick you up, say, in two hours.

Joyce - Alec's suggestion sounds best.

There aren't always taxis waiting on the rank at Gillingham Station - you may have to call.

There's a public telephone in the station waiting room - or you could pre-book when you know your arrival time.

Here are some Gillingham taxis Tel. numbers:
(- all numbers are pre-fixed by 01747)

01747 - 82.22.28 (Premier)
01747 - 82.11.11 (TA Taxis)
01747 - 82.66.68 (Station)
01747 - 82.66.53 (George)
01747 - 82.10.00 ((Dial-a-Cab)

Hope this helps ...
