I am looking for a ghostly tour in London. Any suggestions? I would like it to be historically based...ie: Jack the Ripper or some other type. I guess I am saying i don't want a hokey tour.

London Walks has both a Jack the Ripper and a Ghost Walks.

It's outside central London, but Hampton Court Palace is offering a Ghost Tour (new last year) which is very popular. It's pricey, but HCP is a gorgeous place to visit and soaking in history! I believe the tours were sell-outs last year - ghost tours begin around Halloween and continue into December.

London Walks, that Adrienne recommends, have a very good reputation. We've been on about 6 of their walks and they have all been good, haven't been on any ghost ones though.

Have a look at their website, the man who gives (some?) of the Jack the Ripper walks is apparently the foremost authority on the subject. His tours get huge numbers on them though so not sure if it's hard to hear.

London Walks does several that are highly recommended. One that I liked enough to go on twice is Apparitions, Alleyways and Ales. Good ghost stories and if you believe Russell, who leads it on Thursdays, some ghosts have made themselves visible to certain walkers at times. I've also done the Haunted London one with Corinna but didn't like that one nearly as well. Russell was really good!

That bloke is the arch miserabalist Donald Rumbelow. You can hear easy enough but the crowds are large. Think being lectured by Droopy.

In any case the Jack The Ripper walks aren't "ghost walks" they just vist four of the murder sites (of which nothing remains - it's all been either bombed or redeveloped). There's no acting or embellishing the gory details.

The ghost walks are good - and they do a pub one which also gives you a chance to visit a few good boozers as well as the walk (and they finish in a pub that sells food if you want to eat straight away)

Some of those walks are 2for1'rs and you'll want to be sure you have the proper travelcard (it must have the railway logo on it so you need to buy it in a railway stop such as Victoria Station..ect.)

If you going to take one of those walks it could be a good savings.

You'll see the 2for1 offers if you google for it. (you need to print out a certificate and take it with you to the beginning of the walk.)

We took the JTR tour and my daughter loved it. Not ghost tour, but about JTR. Rumbelow was good if you want JTR information.

If you do the HOHO bus, there is a ghost pub tour that is free with your ticket. The stories were good and so was the beer!
