Getting to Venice from Paris

My first time in Europe, which mode of travel to Venice from Paris is best? How far is it? If by train what is the cost? Thanks

Good evening, Lois
There are a number of trains which leave
at various times during the day from
Paris-East with changes of trains enroute of 1 to 4 times. Times from
10 to 18 hours, fares $213. for 1st and
$143. for second.
From Paris Bercy to Venice S. Lucia a
train leaves Paris and the nex morning
you are in Venice about a 12 hour trip.
$270. for First Class. approx...
Finally would consider flying from CDG
to Venice Marco Polo airport, six flites a day
and with a flight time of 01H20, is
much less than riding the rails...
Have flown into Venice from Rome and
Zurich a number of times has been very
qood and quick...Richard of LaGrange Park, Il..

Thanks so much! Do you know the cost of the flight to Venice, from Paris, of course round-trip. I do have other questions, I have another question in travel talk, "Need advice" at 5:36 today. I am in New Jersey, not far from NYC. Lois

Richard, Thanks so much for your help. Do you know the cost of a round trip to Venice from Paris? Also, Would you happend to know the closest town in Germany to Paris, travel-wise? Which credit card is most accepted in France? Thanks again! Lois

Is there anyone who could answer this question? I need to know the price of a round trip ticket originating in Paris to Venice, and which airline. Thanks!

Hi Lois. The best travel time from Paris to Venice is 10 hours 30 minutes with changes in Milan and Verona.
The fare from Paris to Milan is less on weekends because the French give lower prices at that time.
You travel by TGV to Milan and then change to Italian train.
Note that Venice has two train stations.
Mestre and Santa Lucia. Trains to the east from Paris leave from Gare de Lyon and Gare de l'Est. With some now leaving from Paris Bercy, but those are usually night trains.
Given the length of the trip, I would fly. But remember that CDG airport is a ways out from the city center.

The closest town in Germany to Paris via rail is probably Saarbrucken.
Why? Curious question.

Lois, you may want to consider the night train from Paris to Venice and back. That way you don't have to spend time in transit during the day, and you save the cost of a hotel room that night. The SNCF website quoted a fare of 102.7 Euros for a second-class couchette for one way. If you're still interested in going to Germany, consider night trains from Paris to Munich, Munich to Venice, and Venice back to Paris. Each leg would cost about $100.

"ttt" means "to the top"--adding a content-free reply to a thread to bring it back up to the top of the list
