Getting to the Basilica from the Sistine Chapel
I understand that after touring the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel, there's a way to get inside the Basilica rather than going back outside and around to the front. Can anyone give me the details?
Thanks!

When you enter the Sistine Chapel look to far end and exit via the far right hand door. The sign says Tour Groups only but as the guides leave you when you enter the Sistine Chapel, there shouldn't be any issue. No one was checking anyone. It saves you having to exit and them go through security again.

I've used the group exit on my own a number of times without a problem.
If you plan to use the group exitod, don't check any coats/bags or rent any audioguides, since you won't be returning to the museum entrance.
The group exit puts you just outside the basilica near the line for the dome. You will have skipped the long walk back through the museum, the 10-minute walk around the Vatican walls to Piazza San Pietro, and the piazza security line.

Thanks for the information. I booked the tour through the Vatican web site. I believe the tour includes an audioguide, so I guess I'm stuck going back to the museum entrance...unless I can give it back to the tour guide before he leaves the group.
