Getting from Sorrento to Pompeii/ Herculaneum??

Hello! Does anyone have suggestions on the best way to get from our hotel in Sorrento to Pompeii and Herculaneum? We will have a car, but are concerned about parking. Is there a train that will take us quickly and easily between Sorrento/ Pompeii?
Thank you!!

Circumvesuviana trains run every half hour from Sorrento to Napoli, stopping at Pompei Scavi and Ercolano Scavi.

This is just the information I was trying to find also so thank you for providing the link, GeoffHamer. We will be flying into Naples and then taking the CT to Sorrento. There are many locations for Napoli. Also, 4 locations for Pompei. Does anyone know which location we would highlight and best stop to get off for Pompei? I submitted my best guess for the location but I'm having troubles getting the train schedule to appear. Can you give more details on how this site works? Thank you so much.

If you are flying into Naples, but staying in Sorrento, you don't want the Circumvesuviana. There is a shuttle bus which runs from the airport to Sorrento which is much easier than trying to get to the main station in Naples to catch the train. http://www.curreriviaggi.it/

As for training from Sorrento to Pompeii, you want to get off at the Pompeii Scavi stop and the entrance to Pompeii is across the street. For Herculaneum you get off at the Ercolano Scavi stop and the entrance is as the bottom of the hill.

Don't make the mistake i did the first time I went to Herculaneum and got off at the Ercolano stop and not Ercolano Scavi.Ercolano stop is not for the faint hearted.
Pompeii is about 30 minutes from Sorrento and Ercolano Scavi another 15 minutes or so from there.

Thank you for responding so quickly. I didn't know about the shuttle bus so this will be more convenient. I see that you can pay on board from the website. We are flying in Naples at 11:30am on Oct. 12. Would you recommend making reservations? Not sure if you have to pay in advance? We will have 2 connections getting to Naples so not sure if we will arrive on time.

It's so nice to know the correct train stops to get off at. I remembered our last trip when we had to connect in Genoa and there were about 12 Genoa stops. Invaluable information to have. Thank you again.

I am wondering if anyone can advise on the following: we are leaving Capri to visit Herculaneum/Pompeii the day before we fly out from Naples. We have one full day/night before flying back to the US on a very early flight - wondering if staying in Sorrento vs Naples is a bad idea? Unsure how far Sorrento is from Naples Airport and how expensive a taxi would be (too early for bus). If the recommendation is to stay in Naples, would also appreciate insight on the best area to stay in....THANKS!
