My daughter and I will be staying around the Termini and I have the Metro stops mapped out. What I need help with is getting to Campo Fiori, Jewish Ghetto, Trastevere and other neighborhoods not on the Metro line. Would appreciate the bus numbers or tram numbers to these areas. Many thanks. Since I am mom traveling with daughter really want to be sure of where and how we are going.

Put in a departure address and an arrival address in the areas you are looking for, and the site will tell you what buses to use.

For Campo de Fiori and the Jewish Ghetto, it's the notorious 64, the pickpocket special. I don't know what goes to Trastevere.

You can also pick up a map of the bus routes at the ATAC booth in the Piazza dei Cinquecento in front of Termini.

Well, you could conceivably walk to these locations. (Be prepared for lots of walking.) But if you stayed in a slightly more central location, you wouldn't need public transportation at all. Someplace like the Campo de' Fiori or Piazza Navona.

Even though the metro might not go directly to all the spots you want to go to, just take it to the closest point and walk the rest of the way. As an example, the stop on the Metro before the Vatican is not far at all from Trastevere. You just walk along the river for about 10-15 minutes. Campo Fiori is not far far the Metro either...maybe it looks far on the map but we walked and took the Metro almost everywhere we went and hardly took any cabs.

Why dont you get a Streetwise map of Rome. They are compact and very useful.

We stayed just off Via Nationale at the Oceania which is not very central but we walked everywhere except we took Metro to Vatican and on this my husband had an attempted pick pocket experience. It was our only experience of pp in Italy. Also we had early reservation for Borghese and took a cab but walked back. Rome is totally walkable and seeing it on foot is a great experience. Hi Myra, Besides the #64 bus and a better option (it's an Express and one of those bendy buses ) is the #40 bus.
It goes to the Largo d. Torre Argentina which is where you can catch the #8 Tram to Trastevere and from this Largo it's
just a short walk to the Jewish Ghetto and also the Pantheon.
Although you can stay on the #40 & #64 and go past the Largo and get alittle closer to the Campo Fiori, I would walk it (~400M) from the Largo (more interesting).
Another bus (I've never taken it) is the #492, it will run you by the Trevi Fountain, the Largo d. Torre Argentina and the Piazza Navona.
The #170 will get you to the 'Mouth of Truth'.
And the #75 leaves from the Piazza Independenza (and also Termini) which might be close to your hotel, it goes to the Roman Forum and Colosseum. If you stay on it after it goes around the Colosseum, it's next stop (push the request button) is the 2nd entrance (seldom used) to the Palatine Hill. You can buy your Palatine/Colosseum ticket there and either visit the Palatine then or walk back (~250M) to the Colosseum and bypass the long line.
Pick-up a bus map in Rome and you'll have no problems getting around. And Termini is one of the easiest places to get back to. Regards, Walter
