Getting Around in Seville
Hey there spain people. I'm planning a trip to seville this april. I expect to stay at the Silken Al Andalus Hotel near Avenida de la Palmera (south of Maria Luisa Park). Questions: (1) is it easy to get to this hotel from the airport (train, bus, taxi?), and (2)what's the best way to get around seville to see the important sights (tram, bus, train??) I also plan to see other places in spain (eg. granada, toledo, cadiz, italica, niebla) What's the best way to get to these places from seville? gracias....

Your hotel is pretty far out of the way... If you choose something much more central, you can see most of Seville on foot.
Italica (you realize it's the ruins of a Roman colony?) is only a few kilometers outside Seville; you can do it by local bus, probably.
You will probably have to take a train to Granada. But what about Cordoba? The Mezquita is a unique and unforgettable place.
Toledo can best be reached from Madrid.
I've never been to Cadiz, and I've never heard of Niebla - and neither has my guidebook...

Niebla is located 30 kms east of Huelva along the A472. It's where they are in the process of restoring the Castillo de Niebla (http://www.castillodeniebla.com/ingles/index.htm).

Toledo is best reached by rail from Madrid (unless you have a car) and that trip takes about 35 minutes one-way.
In Seville, if you are staying in the central part of the city, one of the easiest ways to get around is to walk. The biggie sites such as the cathedral, Alcazar, etc., are quite close to one another. If you want to wander in the Barrio Santa Cruz walkig is again the best way since some of the streets are so narrow it is difficult for a vehicle to get through them. Seville has plenty of bus service as well as many taxis.
The rail trip from Seville to Granada takes three hours and there are at least three-four direct trains per day. These trains require a seat reservation which you shoulds be able to easily buy on the day of departure.
The main site IMO in Granada is the Alhambra and no, you cannot walk to it from the train station (someone suggested that here once..insanity)..take a taxi.

first thing in sevilla is get yourself to an area( cathedral, for ex.) where the horse carriages go by and take a 30 euro carriage ride, weather permitting. it will take you in front of all the big sites and you will get a romantinc feel for the city in general.
do not miss "la casa de pilates" second floor. worth the entrance fee.
You can easily get back and forth from your hotel by city bus.
but a 10 -ride pass at kiosk or ask hotel ..(bono bus) and it can be used by all in your party as long as you get off at same place.
we used the bus once but i have no idea as to the numbers for your area. maybe a local will chime in here, bu tit is very easy, or just take a taxi.. will probably be 5-8 euros.
i did a report on sevilla.. click on my name and scroll WAY down. you MIGHT be able to dig it up doing a search for sevilla once into my posts.
have a great trip. the hotel should be very comfortable. there is a silken in valencia, it is a business hotel and the rooms are nice.

My husband & I were in Sevilla 2 years ago and stayed at the Silken Al Andalus hotel. We loved it. At first we were disapointed because it's far from the city center, but the hotel is great and the bus stop is just a block away, plus it was a great way of seeing the city. People watching is quite fun. I believe the bus # is 34. We would love to stay there again. You can walk the entire city center. To go Italica, you can take a bus and in less than an hour you will be there. For us it was a rainy day but we loved it. Don't miss it.
Have a great time!
