Germany Rail and Drive?

Has anyone ever used the rail and drive option for a German railpass?
I am trying to figure out if it works out better (especially option to pick up the car in one city and drop it off in another)-- or am I better to arrange things on my own?
Thanks!

I have used France rail and drive. Main advantage is fairly good deal compared to conventional rental if you only want one day here, one day there.

You should be able to pickup and return rental cars anywhere in Germany with no drop charge, no matter how you "source" the rental.

Best wishes,

Rex
[email protected]
The one time I looked into rail and drive in Germany, it was specified that the pick-up and drop-off point for the car had to be the same, which is why I did not choose that option.

From www.raileurope.com

Reserve your first car rental at least 7 days prior to your departure for Europe by calling the appropriate car company (see below for which companies serve certain passes). Confirm drop-off conditions at time of reservation. Be sure to reserve your car in advance as they are subject to availability.

Hertz rental cars are provided with the following passes: EurailDrive, Eurail Selectpass Drive, BritRail Pass 'n Drive, Italy Rail 'n Drive and German Rail 'n Drive. Phone numbers for Hertz are: 1-800-654 3001 in the U.S., 1-800-263-0600 in Canada for English language, 1-800-263-0678 in Canada for French language, 416-620-9620 in Toronto and 91-800-700-16 in Mexico.

==================

So, whatever Hertz tells you is what you will need to follow. If in doubt, call them.
