Germany-itinerary help
I am starting out in Hannover for a week of research then going to maybe Göttingen down the Rhein to Rothenburg ob der Tauber. But I do not know where to go from there. I have a rail pass and would like to see Regensburg, Schorndorf, Munich and Salzburg. I love taking pictures and wonder if Neuschwanstein would be worth seeing. I have been to Burg Eltz before. I want to practice my German (I am still learning).
Has anyone been to Legoland in Germany? I have a total of 10 days after Hannover.
Any suggestions?

from Hannover, spend a night or 2 in Celle, 17km from Hanover. Lots of fachwerk houses and a nice downtown area.
while in Rothenburg ob der Tauber, visit Dinkelsbuhl, 1/2 hour away by car...can't tell you have long by public transportation.
Neuschwanstein is in Hohenshwangau, not far from the Austrian border and the Alps. If you like castles, go see it. I would prefer Mittenwald, also just over the border from Austria. That being said, I'm spending my first night of my Sept. 2009 trip in Hohenschwangau.

If you are going to Gottingen then don't miss Celle, Goslar, Wernigerode, Wolfenbuettel, and other places in and around the Harz.
The Rhein does not go anywhere near Rothenburg, but you can visit there from the Harz in about 4.5 hours driving. From there head to Regensburg, maybe Passau, and on to Salzburg before circling back to Munchen

The Rhein is also nowhere near Goettingen - a completely new destination for you to consider and worth dedicating time to in itself. So far you have named destinations in North Germany (Niedersachsen), western Germany and southern Germany. If you only have 10 days after Hannover I'd definitely consider cutting down your destinations or restricting yourself to one area (my vote would be for just seeing north Germany (Celle, Goettingen and Harz townships, maybe Bremen or Hamburg) this time, but that's just me). Since you are learning German and doing research there I foresee that you're going to come back again someday...

I just visited the Legoland website - I didn't know there was a Legoland in Germany too.

Thanks for your suggestions. I know all the cities I put down are all over the place. I was just trying to figure out the best order to visit them in. Somehow, I have to be back in Dusseldorf to fly back home. I thought maybe skip Göttingen? and do the Rhein on the way back to Dusseldorf??
That would mean I would go from Hannover to Rothenburg, and then from Rothenburg, perhaps Fussen, then Regensburg-Munich-Salzburg.
