Visit to Germany

My family and I just returned from Germany,Austria, and Italy and we had awonderful time. Our favorite place on the journey was Mittenwald Germany. This town was beautiful. We stayed at the Alpen Rose Hotel. It was great. very Bavarian in decor and the rooms were spotless and kept that way every day.The staff was wonderful. Our daughter was sick when we arrived and they showed me where the doctors office was and even made some soup in the kitchen to take to her room. I can't say enough about how the people in this town were wonderful. We would love to plan a family vacation there.
We also visited Rottenburg what an experience! Even though this is a tourist town it did not seem like it. I guess because all the buildings are the real thing. The night watchman tour was fun and informative.
Then on to Salsburg. Very beautiful we had a lot of fun going down the back streets and open air market. Of course you have to visit Mozarts birthplace and house! We even trecked to the real church that Maria(sound of music) was married in .
We loved visiting the little towns in Germany. We stopped in many of them to visit or just have a bite to eat. Even though we did not speak their language very well we always managed to converse. The people in Germany were so warm and friendly. We can not wait to go back

I think you should've paid a little closer attention to the road signs indicating the names of the towns you visited......

ooh, otzi - a little harsh, i think.

the OP is clearly very enthusiastic about germany. I have no idea though why it should come as such a surprise that germans are friendly people!

regards, ann

I agree that Bavaria and the area around Salzburg are very special. We stayed at the Alpen Rose in Mittenwald a couple of years ago and have always put it at the top of our favorite places list. They didn't make us soup but they did serve pretty good beer. We also like Mondsee the town with the SOM wedding church. Did you know you can rent the whole town for weddings? Thanks for sharing your report. I

Sorry, I'm just getting into the Fodor mindset. It seems a good many fellow posters are very very concerned about what the Europeans think of us Americans. They get apoplectic worrying about whether wearing shorts and/or white sneakers will cause the Euros to laugh at them. Surely not using the right names for major tourist cities in Europe will really tick the sacred Europeans off!!!!

I too love Germany and Austria and I'm glad Nurse1 had a great time. I am actually rather jealous since my trip is still 7 weeks away.

Thanks for posting your trip report, nurse1. We also stayed at the Alpen Rose in Mittenwald 2 years ago, and quite enjoyed our stay, including dinner in their restaurant.

Did you take a SOM tour when you were in Salzburg, or did you trek out to Mondsee on your own? We took the Panorama tour in 1997, and stopping at the "wedding church" was a highlight for me.
